About this event

Celebrating local women on International Women's Day 2020

Thursday 5th March 2020 - 10am to 2pm

This special IWD event has been planned by and for service users within the Women's Lives Leeds (WLL) partnership.

SnapShott photo booth will be with us until 1pm, so you can have a fun photo taken as a momento of the day!

From 10.30am expect inspiring talks from an all-female line up of women...

Including talks from local women from WLL and Leeds SistersUncut, who have taken the lead to improve their own lives and community. We will also have performances from the She Writes group, Lolshevism and spoken word poet Natalie Davies. The day will be MC'd by Leeds-based Ladies Lovin' Radio!

From 11am join one of our round tables for fun activities and advice and skill-sharing until 2pm...

Workshops include bath-salt making and other wellbeing activities, poetry, hand stitching and embroidery, sharing vegetable growing advice and planting seeds, sharing ideas on saving money and taking action to improve all women's lives in Leeds; from food poverty to safety in the city.

A Woman's Worth workshop: Explore your personal qualities and aspirations in a poetic workshop with Natalie Anastasia Davies, Leeds based poet and Community Worker. Sit down, relax and create your own poem, as big or small as you like. Take away beautiful snippets of poetry and exchange uplifting notes of encouragement with your fellow women!

Community Action: Come and speak to representatives of The Trussell Trust #5weekstoolong benefits campaign, Leeds Sister Uncut and WLL’s own Advisory Board member to see how you can get involved in your local community.

Free refreshments and buffet lunch, including vegan and gluten-free options. Public travel costs can be refunded on the day, or speak to your WLL organisation for local arrangements.

Open to all past and present female/self-defining women service users within the WLL partnership. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible. A creche is provided (limited spaces - pre-booking advised by 5th February).

Organised by our Advisory Board members. Thanks to Getaway Girls, Leeds Women's Aid, Nari Ekta, Shantona, Women's Health Matters and ALL our Women's Lives Leeds partners for getting involved!

Contact us on 0113 288 4590 or email IsabelleF@leedswomensaid.org.uk for more information, to book a creche space, or if you have specific dietary or to discuss your accessibility requirements.
