The West Midlands Grain Network is (finally) meeting up! We are gathering at Hampton Manor's Grace & Savour Restaurant to showcase the amazing diversity of grains in our region.
Please bring along something you have baked with heritage flour, ideally flour from a West Midlands grower; we want to explore the versatility of these amazing grains, so cakes, biscuits, bread, pastry or anything that you wish!
Although the day is most certainly centred around bakes, bringing something is non-essential as discussion around how we can get more grains on people's plates is of vital importance to the conversaion. You don't have to be a baker to bake, millers and growers are welcome! You can also come along just to be a discerning taster, that’s totally fine too. Bakes will also not be 'judged' by bakery standards or expectations - we're here for the creativity and working together to attain a better food system that includes more wholegrains and welcome everyone at the table.
Programme:
- An introduction from Hampton Manor and mini tour.
- Tasting over lunch - we'll share our bakes, chewing over flavours, textures, techniques and adaptability. Following on we will discuss customer expectations, barriers to making these grains more popular, and how to unlock the sticking points to get more bakers, millers and growers collaborating.
Hot drinks will be served throughout the day, and soups/salads will be served to accompany our bakes.
Transportation:
By Train - The closest train station is Hampton-in-Arden Rail Station which is well connected to London, Coventry, Northampton and Birmingham etc. Hampton Manor and Savour Grace Restaurant is a short walk away (5-10min) and easily accessible from the station.
By Car - To avoid confusion with other events at the venue, please do not park at the bakery or the main house. Upon arrival, please carry on through the main gates and follow signs for Grace & Savour Restaurant parking area.
