The University of Wolverhampton’s Black and Minority Ethnic Staff Network is joining forces with staff and students from across the university for a special week of film screenings about the life experiences of Black and Asian people from all over the world. Topics covered include the challenges faced by a disabled child in India, the lifestyles of young black women in France and the fight for LGBT rights in Uganda.
The Film Festival is taking place from the 30th January to the 2nd February. Every day we will be having a film screening at 5.30pm, and on Wednesday they’ll be an additional screening at 1.30pm. Each screening will be introduced by either a staff member or supporter of the University of Wolverhampton.
With the exception of the Monday film screening, all screenings will be taking place in the Arena Theatre. Limited free refreshments and snacks will be available at each event.
For more details, including the precise films that we will be screening, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or message the team through Facebook.
The events are open to all staff, students as well as the general public.
Due to the nature of our film licences we are unable to state publiclly the precise films that we will be hosting. We can however hint at them quite heavily by describing the topics covered:
Monday Evening at 5.30pm: Acclaimed Indian Film about the experiences of a boy with dyslexia
Tuesday Evening at 5.30pm: BAFTA-nominated French Film about the lives of young black women living on the outskirts of Paris
Wednesday Afternoon at 1.30pm: Moving documentary about the challenges faced by the LGBT rights movement in Uganda.
Wednesday Evening at 5.30pm: Celebrated Hollywood adapation of acclaimed novel about the experiences of a second-generation Indian-American.
Thursday Evening at 5.30pm: We're still finalising this film - we will confirm when we know.
You don't have to register to attend, but doing so will help us measure how many people are planning to come to the event. You can register for the whole season if you attend to come to all or most of the films, or for a single event if you only plan to watch one of the films.
