Event Details

Women first won the right to vote and stand for election 100 years ago. Although much has been achieved and women's lives have been transformed since history was made in 1918, there's still a long way to go.

Baroness Shami Chakrabarti joins an expert panel of activists and historians for a discussion about what women can achieve in the next 100 years. Use interactive smartphone voting to make your voice heard and help shape the debate.

You'll see Wills Memorial Building transformed as we bring the University's history to life, and look to the future of gender equality, both at Bristol and beyond.

How do you think we can overcome key challenges in the fight for equality? What every day acts can bring about change? What are the main things you'd like to see change for women in the next 100 years?

A series of blogs will discuss these questions and more over the next 10 weeks. Join the conversation on social media using the #BristolUniWomen hashtag and let us know what topics you’d like to see discussed.

Panellists include Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, the University of Bristol's Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education Professor Judith Squires, Bristol Students' Union equality, liberation and access officer Sally Patterson and History academic Dr Sumita Mukherjee.

About Vote 100

The Vote 100 campaign, part of a £5 million centenary fund created by the government, commemorates 100 years of women’s suffrage. Bristol Women’s Voice, together with the University of Bristol and partners across the city, has been celebrating Bristol’s history as a city of change-makers and considering how it can continue to fight for equality in the future through an exciting series of events.
