Women and Non-Binary People's Workshop: Finding your joy with Mara Joy

About this Event

Women and Non-binary people's workshops are an open and supportive creative space for women and all non-binary people of all ages and experience levels.

The reason most of us got into improv is because it's fun. So why do we so often find ourselves in scenes we don't enjoy, that make us uncomfortable or that we just don't want to be in?

In this workshop we'll focus on playing scenes that delight you. We'll identify and use your own unique perspectives to create scenes that no one else can. We'll look at tools to take your own personal joy into every show, class and scene that you do. Improv should be fun, playful and joyful and this workshop will put that at the forefront. Let's do scenes we want to be in!

Mara Joy is a queer trans improviser based in Edinburgh, Scotland. She is a member of the Scottish Comedy Award-winning Spontaneous Players and performs in the two person show Me Plus One, an unstructured twoprov show with a different guest each time. She has performed at ten Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, the Birmingham Improv Festival, the Copenhagen International Improv Festival and headlined Zeal: the Pride Improv Festival.

She has been lucky enough to train with teachers from all over the world and continues to take as many classes as possible with as many different people as possible, believing that you can never stop learning. She thanks you for reading this bio and hopes you have a lovely day!

These workshops run once a month, and they are stand-alone, so you can book one or come along every time. Each workshop is taught by a different teacher and focuses on a specific area of improvisation, and we have some exciting people lined up over the coming months!

This open workshop runs Sunday 29th November 3pm - 5.30pm GMT.

Open: A class for anyone, regardless of their improv experience. Although more experienced players are of course welcome, the content does not require any prior improv knowledge.
