Find out about the role of women during the First World War.

Various events will be taking place during the evening, including:

Cavell in Film

Jane Alvey from the East Anglian Film Archive will introduce some films about Nurse Cavell in the archive collection, and the history of the two feature films made about Nurse Cavell by director Herbert Wilcox

Experiences of Norfolk Women in the First World Wareriences of Norfolk Women in the First World War

A 20-minute talk about the many roles of women during the First World War. This talk, by Frank Meeres, curator of our exhibition ‘No Hatred or Bitterness’, will take you through some case studies of the experiences of a number of Norfolk Women during the war.

Tracing your Nurse Ancestors

Frank Meeres will be explaining some of the sources that you can use in finding out about ancestors who were nurses.

Cavell’s Funeral Procession

A chance to watch archive film of Cavell’s funeral procession from Norwich Train Station to Norwich Cathedral.

Location: The Green Room

Time: 6.35

Refreshments will be available all evening. You are welcome to bring them into the Green Room with you, but not in to the searchroom.

The events listed here are run from our base at The Archive Centre, Martineau Lane, Norwich. For events at Norfolk Heritage Centre, please contact heritagecentre@norfolk.gov.uk, for events at King's Lynn Borough Archive please visit storiesoflynn@west-norfolk.gov.uk. Our staff also attend public events and give talks/run workshops in other locations around the County; from local libraries to village halls and other meeting places.
