Event description

Description

Watts & Co. - the world's foremost purveyor of ecclesiastical designs, textiles and accessories - are partnering with Church Urban Fund - the social action arm of the Church of England - to launch a new sustainable collection of clerical clothing for women. This launch event, an evening reception of networking, canapes and drinks, features a very special key note talk from Chine McDonald. Chine is Media and PR Lead at Christian Aid and prior to that was the Head of Christian influence & engagement at World Vision. She read theology & religious studies at Cambridge University before training as a journalist. Chine has been named in lists including Christianity magazine’s ’33 under 33’ and Keep the Faith’s ‘Most Influential Black Christian Women’. She is a trustee of Greenbelt Festival and several social action charities, author of of ‘Am I Beautiful?’ – a book exploring body image among Christian women, and a regular contributor to BBC Religion & Ethics programmes, including the Daily Service, Pause for Thought and Prayer for the Day.

Sustainability, traceability and alleviating poverty are at the heart of Watts & Co.’s exclusive collaboration with the Church Urban Fund. The ‘Sustainable Collection’ features women’s clerical wear, all of which have been made in England using organic cotton jersey. The GOTS certified cotton was woven and dyed at a mill in Leicester and later sewn by a team of talented craftspeople in Watts’ Westminster showroom.

Buying a garment (or making a donation at the launch event) will help tackle a wide spectrum of social issues and provide vital support to those experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, food poverty and financial exclusion. 10% of every sale will be donated to the Church Urban Fund. This support will assist important Church Urban Fund's work mobilising communities around the country to respond to social issues in their area.

If you're interested in the role of Christian women in social justice, this is an event not to be missed. Tickets are free of charge, but please register your attendance so we can cater accordingly. Please telephone 02078 981 091 with any questions.
