Women in Agriculture - supporting rural Scotland
Date and time
Description
Women in Agriculture has drawn together a collective of organisations to support women across Rural Scotland to :
• Share experiences of land based industries and rural Scotland
• Seek advice, support and skills based learning
• Access networking and peer group support
The event is desgined to inspire women in farming, forestry and rural business & to recognise their collective contribution whilst signposting support/ development opportunities available from other agencies. This spring the second event will be hosted by RHASS and will offer guests the opportunity to take part in discussion groups on the following topics .
Workshop 1 - Farm Diversification: Hosted by SRUC , Gall Robertson and Forestry Industry
This guide is for those who have expereince or are thinking of diversifying, by adding new business activities to traditional farming. Farm diversification is not guaranteed to boost your farming business and can be a complex process, but can also be very rewarding. If you are wondering whether to diversify, and how you might do so, you will find the independent advice presented at this workshop very helpful.
Workshop 2 - Pathways to public appointments - Hosted by RHASS & Scottish Government
Are you interested in helping shape how excellent public services are delivered in Scotland? Are you looking for an opportunity to develop yourself and your business - whilst making a real difference? Then a position on the Board of a public body could be just what you are looking for.
This workshop will look at pathways to public appointments. You will learn about the Scottish Government’s commitment to diversity in public appointments, the Board “landscape” and why you might be interested in being involved; you will hear first-hand about being a board member, and explore what skills and experience boards are looking for so you can understand better what you can bring to the table.
Workshop 3 - Resilience & Resourcefulness - hosted by SAOS
This workshop aims to develop & challenge people to change the way they do things & create opportunities. One of the best ways to build resilience is to work together and co-operate - this workshop encourage farmers and their families to start thinking about building resilience as a deliberate strategy. Among the topics covered by the workshop will be:
How to assess a farm’s risk bearing capacity;
Planning for unexpected events;
Looking for opportunities from upheaval;
How to build personal and business resilience.
