Description

Women in Engineering: Report launch and drinks reception

You are invited to a New Statesman drinks reception event, organised in association with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Surveys indicate that only 11% of the engineering workforce is female, and that the UK has the lowest percentage of female engineering professionals in Europe. With the UK suffering a chronic shortage of STEM skills, and with almost two thirds of engineering employers citing a shortage of high-skilled workers as a barrier to business, improving diversity and inclusion in engineering professions is now more necessary than ever.

Join an assembled audience of invited guests from the world of engineering, business, education, politics and journalism, to hear parliamentarians and expert speakers from the EPSRC, the IET and IMechE, discuss the topic of female representation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses and professions.

With confirmed speakers:

Dr Osak Esu, IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year

Professor Sarah Sharples, Associate PVC for Research and Knowledge Exchange in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham and EPSRC Council Member

Helena Rivers, Regional Director at AECOM and member of IMechE’s Trustee Board

And more speakers TBC.

To be held on Thursday 28th June 2018 between 7:00pm and 9:00pm, Terrace Dining Room A, House of Commons, Westminster
