Event description

Description

On the 4th May 2016 Directors UK published its commissioned study Cut Out of the Picture - A study into Gender Inequality Amongst Directors within the UK Film Industry, by Stephen Follows. It studied 2,591 UK films released over a ten-year period (2005-2014) and found that just 13.6% of working film directors in the last decade were women. Despite women making up 50.1% of all film students in the UK and 49.4% of new entrants in the film industry, only 27.2% of short films and 21.7% of publicly funded films studied were directed by women.

Therefore, this year we decided to dedicate one screening specifically for some of our female directors who submitted their shorts to the festival to promote and support gender equality amongst female directors. We will of course have more shorts directed by females in our other screenings, but we thought we would celebrate this handful of kick ass directors in tonight's screening.

Tonight's shorts include:

The Wyrd (Director: Chloe Wicks, UK, 20mins)
The BackSeat (Director: Miranda Howard Williams, UK 17mins)
Curing Albrecht (Director :Jessica Wright, UK, 5mins)
The Beast Underneath (Director: Anaelle Morf, Switzerland, 13mins)
Kin (Director: Helena Middleton, UK,15mins)
Homecoming (Director: Sinéad O'Loughlin, 14mins, Ireland)
Catherine (Director:Brit Raes 12mins, Spain)

We will also be joined by a couple of the directors on show for a short Q&A after the screening (guests TBC).
