About this Event

Join us to look at the role of Women in Film, featuring successful female professionals in front of and behind the camera.

We will be discussing our panelists' individual journeys, successes and challenges, as well as addressing the broader notion of representation in film, such as:

  • range and availability of roles for women both in front of and behind the camera
  • challenges women face in the film industry and whether ground is being gained

Afterwards, join our Audience Q&A and use the opportunity to pick our experts’ brains and network with fellow filmmakers and artists.

VICTORIA EMSLIE

Victoria Emslie (@monhublot) is a British actor known for Downton Abbey, 12 Monkeys, The Frankenstein Chronicles and The Theory of Everything. She is an active member of Time's Up UK and ERA 5050 core committee member. Launched from a call to action from Time's Up UK meetings, Victoria bootstrapped a new business called Primetime to help address the gender imbalance within the Entertainment Industry - as we know, to change the conversation onscreen we must change the conversation behind the screen. Primetime currently has over 1100 members worldwide, including multi-BAFTA and Emmy winners and Academy Award nominees. You can find out more at www.primetime.network.

JACQUELINE PEPALL

Jacqueline Pepall is an award-winning writer/ director for film and television. She recently directed the 2nd unit on the BBC/ Netflix teen drama GET EVEN (currently in post production). As a writer, Jacqueline’s work has been shortlisted for the Sundance Episodic Lab, 2019. Her feature film, GOBLIN MARKET is in formal development with the BFI. She has television projects in development with New Pictures and Channel 4.

Her short film credits include WISHIN’ & HOPIN' (BFI Flare 2018), THE HOTEL AFFAIR (London Short Film Festival 2018), and OPHELIA’S END (Best Film, Dallas Flicks by Chicks Film Festival 2017). She created and directed the contemporary dance series, THEN DANCE (Sky Arts 2014-2016, British National Lottery Award nominee) and the comedy pilot UPSTAGED (CBC Canada, winner: Best Pilot, LA Comedy Festival).

The UK Trade and Investment Commission recently selected Jacqueline for their “UK Talent Goes to Hollywood” initiative, which pairs promising British directors with Hollywood studios. Jacqueline was the 2016/2017 Hospital Club Foundation's “Emerging Creative” for Film and Television. In 2018, she was listed as “One to Watch” by the Edinburgh TV Festival. She is part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival’s 2019 Talent Lab.

She organizes and runs an annual film festival, “From the Wilderness,” championing the work of female directors.

Her work celebrates new, underrepresented heroes.

JEMMA MOORE

Actor Jemma Moore - WINNER of the ABC DISCOVERS FIRST UK TALENT COMPETITION 2017 - has recently been cast in BBC ONE production ‘SHAKESPEARE & HATHAWAY’ (‘one of the BBC’s biggest daytime triumphs in years, picking up impressive viewing figures and becoming the best-performing BBC Daytime content on iPlayer in history.’ RADIO TIMES) as Rose Lin (Series 2, Episode 9 ‘The Envious Court’) and earlier this year as LI in Tony Giglio’s ‘DOOM: ANNIHILATION’ ( 2019 – Produced by. Universal Entertainment).

Jemma is featured in Richard Ayoade’s ‘THE DOUBLE’ (Produced by. Alcove Entertainment/British Film Institute/Film4 Distributed by. StudioCanal) and Zawe Ashton’s ‘THE PLACE WE GO TO HIDE’ (Produced by. Asylum Features Distributed by. iTunes). In 2018 Jemma was also featured as QUEEN’s GUARD in Warner Brothers production of ‘WONDER WOMAN’ directed by. Patty Jenkins.

Not only is Jemma known for her on-screen roles but also as an award-winning producer, winning BEST NARRATIVE SHORT at Let’s All Be Free Festival 2016 and BEST AFRICAN FILM at San Francisco Black Film Festival 2016 with short film ‘EXILE INCESSANT’ Directed by. James Reynolds now available here on AMAZON. She produced short film ‘ALL OF ME’ Directed by. Daphne Schmon with an entirely female crew (featured on The Guilty Feminist Podcast), which premiered at Cannes Film Festival. ‘ALL OF ME’ was selected as one of the “BEST OF CANNES” shorts to screen with the Creative Market Group.

Jemma is currently both producing and starring in comedy short film ‘STALLING IT’ (writer/director Caroline Ward). Caroline and Jemma received 50% of their funding from Stefan Allesch-Taylor CBE and Charles Kay at Triforce festivals ‘Pitch it Live’ event at BAFTA and 50% they raised on INDIEGOGO.
