Event description

Description

Women in Law Scotland is delighted to invite you to attend its first-ever debate taking place on International Women's Day. Taking IWD's campaign theme for 2017 to heart, #BeBoldForChange, the Motion for the debate is “This House believes the legal profession has failed working women”.

Whilst the debate will not necessarily reflect the speakers' personal beliefs or opinions, we hope it will be a platform for some thought-provoking discussion around equality within the Scottish legal profession, as well as providing a chance for networking or catching up with friends, colleagues and contacts.

Speaking at the debate will be David Bryson (legal counsel at Baillie Gifford); Caroline Kelly (Partner and Solicitor Advocate at Thorntons Solicitors); Ximena Vengoechea (Advocate at Hastie Stables); Roddy Macpherson (Messenger-at-Arms and Sheriff Officer, Rutherford & Macpherson); Val Dougan (PSL at CMS and member of Law Society Equality and Diversity Committee); and Joyce Cullen (Partner at Brodies LLP). The debate will be chaired by Christine McLintock, Past President of the Law Society of Scotland.

Tea and coffee will be provided and all proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to LawCare, a charity that promotes and supports good mental health and wellbeing in the legal community.

The event is being sponsored by Frasia Wright Associates: "We are thrilled to be invited to sponsor such a worthwhile and important event. And we know these are interesting and challenging times for Women in the Profession and so we look forward to a lively debate!"
