Women in Media Belfast CIC returns to the beautiful Queen’s University Belfast Great Hall for its annual Ireland and Britain media summit.Our ‘Future Focused’ themed event will be of interest to a wide range of sectors, workers and students. All are welcome.
PROGRAMME
9.30am – The registration bit – arrive, meet the QUB student led events team, sign in, grab a coffee, and a seat at a table. Bring your laptop, notepad, pen, and contacts book.
10am-1pm – The speaking bit – timings and line up, subject to change, include:
- A QUB welcome from our hosts.WIMB CIC’s nominated good cause for the event is the fantastic Give Inc Women’s Fund. Dorcas Crawford and Callie Persic from GIWF will be talking about women supporting women, philanthropy, giving circles, collaborating with the Community Foundation and more.
- The Women’s Panel – Reps from Women on Air (WoA), Women in Journalism Scotland (WiJS), Women in Media Belfast (WIMB CIC), and the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Belfast & District Branch will be in discussion about reporting from a small jurisdiction, shared island/s media collaboration and initiatives, amplifying women’s voices, media safety locally and internationally, freelancing and more.
- The Men’s Panel – this year’s event is on the eve of International Men’s Day so we have invited our colleagues and allies to address delegates. Belfast Telegraph journalist Kurtis Reid will be in discussion with podcaster and columnist Lee Costello, tech lawyer and activist Jude Copeland, and U105 station manager and Radio Academy NI chair Peter McVerry.
- Impartial Reporter news editor Victoria Johnston will be in conversation with teacher and NASUWT rep Sally Rees about her upskirting ordeal, the court process, and how the media handled it all.
- #ENDVAWG – Natalie McNally’s family will share thoughts on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls.
- A presentation by Belfast Metropolitan College Journalism & Documentary and Sports Media students led by course director and broadcaster Lynda Bryans.
1pm-3pm The food, drink and networking (we prefer to say socialising and selfies) bit. A delicious hot lunch, and Jawbox Gin reception.
