Event description

Description

In 2017 we celebrated the centenary of the Medical Women’s Federation. Women have come a long way and now head many of the major medical institutions. They make up the majority of students and trainees. Yet we are still far from achieving gender parity in the profession.

Clare Woodford has over 15 years’ experience of working on equality issues in the public sector. Her background includes senior policy roles for national health organisations and charities including the NHS Confederation, Family Planning Association and Carers UK. She has led national projects to promote equalities amongst women, people with disabilities and their carers.

Clare will talk about:

· Whether we should be concerned by the ongoing gender differences in medicine and highlight current opportunities for advancing gender equality

· The gender pay gap in medicine, the reasons for it and what the BMA is doing, alongside doctors, to help eliminate it

· Combining work and caring responsibilities: training and working part time and other flexible working developments that could make a difference to your career;

Other barriers to women progressing in medical careers and how they can be overcome

PLEASE NOTE: Hot 2 course supper will be available from 19.00 and the event will commence at 19.30
