Event description

Description

‘Women in Mind’ is a series of events by the Women and Mental Health Special Interest Group, Royal College of Psychiatrists, in collaboration with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, aiming to engage health professionals and the public in debate and discussion about challenges to women’s mental health across the life cycle.

The events are centred around interviews with inspirational women on professional or personal experiences that have shaped their views on women’s mental health, both in terms of difficulties and resilience.

Dame Fiona Caldicott was the First woman to be the Dean and the first woman to be the President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She was also the Principal of Somerville College, Oxford university for many years. She created an ineffaceable legacy when she became the Chair of the Caldicott Committee on patient identifiable data in the NHS. This led to ‘Caldicott Principles’ and the creation of ‘Caldicott Guardians’ in all provider organisations in the NHS.

Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, our shadow attorney general and the past director of Liberty, is a familiar and strong voice advocating freedom of the individual over the state. Known for her unconventional approach, she considers economic policies to be feminist issues and is not a fan of ephemeral play of rules and unwritten rules in the digital world.

Abigail Burdess is an actor writer and comedian whose credits include Tracey Ullman's Show (BBC1), the BAFTA nominated Sorry I've Got No Head (CBBC) and the BAFTA winning That Mitchell and Webb Look (BBC2). Her first play, All The Single Ladies, examined how social media platforms isolate and liberate women.
