WOMEN IN MUSIC FESTIVAL: ALIF LAILA sitar / Pritam Singh tabla

Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Laila is a disciple of late Ustad Mir Qasem Khan, nephew of Ustad Alauddin Khan, founder of the Senia Maihar Gharana. She further continued under the tutelage of Partha Chatterjee, Krishna Bhatt and Kushal Das. Also an accomplished painter, Laila has a BA degree in Fine Arts from Dhaka University.
She has performed in venues like, The Kennedy Center Wash DC, The Shakespeare Theater-Wash DC,The Purcell Room- South Bank Center, London, Bharat Bhavan-Bhopal, The Bengal Festival- Dhaka, The India International Center -New Delhi, BHU-Benares etc During her Europe tour in 2016, she performed “Music For Peace’ at UNESCO, Paris. She has recorded and performed with world renowned tabla artists such as Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Ustad Tari Khan - collaborated with South Indian classical, Jazz saxophone – composed for Sitar/Cello, Dakshina Dance Company Wash DC.Her sitar performances were enhanced with her water color paintings in the US, UK and Bangladesh.
Her DVD ‘Hridayaragam’, has been featured in the’ Women’s History Month’, Smithsonian, Wash DC.Her DVD ‘Resonance of Sitar’ was nominated for The Best Classical Music Award in Dhaka , Bangladesh.
Laila’s upcoming CD Ekavali is with sitar and world percussion.
