About this event
Mandu will be in conversation with host Claire-Marie Boggiano and a guest list of inspiring women from across the region – all connected to the key aims of this creative new force in politics and all boundary shifters and change makers within their own fields of expertise.
Our keynote:
Mandu Reid:
Mandu Reid is the Party Leader of the Women’s Equality Party and the first person of colour to lead a national political party in British history when she took the helm in 2019. Energetic, visionary and passionate, Mandu is an inspirational speaker and a dynamic changemaker and has been recognised as one of the top 100 most influential people in global gender policy alongside Michelle Obama, Melinda Gates and Ruth Bader Ginsburg amongst others.
Our facilitator/host:
Claire-Marie Boggiano:
We are delighted to announce that the event will be facilitated by Claire-Marie Boggiano, an energetic and innovative business change and leadership development professional. A chartered engineer, with her own change consultancy business, Claire-Marie is currently a Lecturer in Leadership at the University of Salford Business School. She is also on the steering group of queen bee Coaching and is an active member of GM4Women. Claire-Marie’s specialities include: breaking eggs, building gladiators and making connections, making her the perfect host for the evening!
Our first inspirational guest:
Sofia Higgins:
Sofia is Chair of Trustee Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS); Chair of the board of Trustees of GM4Women and Co-Chair of the GM BAME Women's Third Sector Network Director of Greater Manchester Coaching Hub CIC; and is undertaking a Phd at Manchester Metropolitan University on the experience of BAME female leaders within the voluntary and community sector. WE are delighted with this wealth of experience and commitments that Sofia has agreed to join our event.
We are excited to announce that Mandu and host Claire-Marie Boggiano will be in conversation with our inspirational guest Maggie Oliver – best known as the Detective-turned- whistleblower who resigned from Greater Manchester Police in late 2012 in order to expose the now infamous Rochdale Grooming Scandal.
Maggie’s relationship with the victims of child grooming continues to this day, still fighting for justice for survivors of sexual abuse through establishing The Maggie Oliver Foundation with the focus on helping survivors to Transform Pain into Power.
We are excited and privileged to announce our final guest joining Mandu Reid is Dr. Muna Abdel Aziz, Director of Public Health for Salford. She completed her MD in Sudan and her PhD at Cambridge University. Her work as a public health specialist has taken her to Sheffield, Sudan, Warrington and Salford. Muna has been instrumental in supporting the city’s response to COVID. She is passionate about reducing inequalities and she will focus on the learning from COVID-19 and the challenges our communities face when intersectional factors collide to create poor health outcomes.
