Event description

Description

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is hosting the first "Women in Science" conference, on May 22nd 2018. Open to staff and students at any university or college in Liverpool, the day will feature talks and panel discussions that will address the ongoing issues of gender inequality in STEM subjects, with particular focus on three areas - academic scientific research, scientific careers in industry, and the challenges women face in typically male-driven fields, e.g. antarctic exploration, and the use of drones in research.

Speakers will also include Tabitha Morton, the Liverpool Mayoral Candidate 2017 for the Women's Equality Party, who will discuss gender inequality in the North West and beyond.

Registration is required for attendance as seating is limited - please bring confirmation of your ticket on the day. More details will be provided later, including how to submit a question for panel discussion ahead of time (questions can also be asked on the day without prior submission).

Discussion topics will include

  • Access to funding - challenges and insight from grant winners
  • Establishing your own research group
  • Routes to industry from academia
  • Mentorship and role models
