Event description
An event which examines why women are under-represented in sport governance, and how we can work together to address this

About this Event

Event Description:

The underrepresentation of women within the governance of English sport is an ongoing problem. One study published in 2016 found that only 19% of Board directors and 13% of Board chairs on governing bodies in England were female (Adriaanse, 2016). As a result of this underrepresentation, in 2017 UK Sport announced their new Code of Sports Governance, which included a target of 30% gender diveristy on Boards.

Two years down the line, this one-day event brings together practitioners from across numerous different sports to ask: how much progress have we made since the new governance code was introduced, and what is still to be done?

The event will provide strategies and advice on best practice within sports governance from those currently working in the field. Additionally, the event aims to facilitate collaboration between academics and those working within sports governance, and suggest ways in which we can work together in future to ensure more equitable governance of sport.
