About this event

[ Please note, sign up for our first session on Sept 7 and we will add you to our mailing list for the following 4 sessions - no need to register for all five].

Sparta Global's Women in Tech: Starter course has been designed by women, for women and to be delivered by women - with the aim to help inspire the next generation of female tech trailblazers. If you want to start a career in technology today, or are exploring how your transferable skills and passion for creativity could be transferred to tech, our starter course can take you from novice to knowledgeable in five free sessions.

This informative introduction to the professional world of tech will see you take part in practical activities to help you develop the skills employers are looking for, aswell as providing networking opportunities and mentorship sessions.

After five sessions - 2 hours on a Tuesday, each week - you'll be ready and raring to take the next step into tech.

What do I need to join the programme?

Passion and the motivation to learn - that's it!

This programme will be perfect for:

  • Recent graduates from any degree subject
  • Recent graduates who may be struggling to find work due to COVID 19
  • School leavers and individuals without a degree
  • Junior professionals who may have been made redundant during COVID and want to career change
  • Mothers returning to work

Who will be delivering the training?

Training across the five sessions will be shared by three of our incredible Academy training team. These women are:

  • Catherine French (C# DEV and SDET Trainer):

Cathy is a Software Development professional and Academic with almost 30 years of experience. Former Principal Lecturer in Software Development at Staffordshire University and senior Engineer for a number of organisations, Cathy joined our Birmingham-based training team in January 2020.

  • Paula Kedra (Data Trainer):

With a first class Bsc Hons Psychology and a distinction MSc in Cognitive Psychology, Paula does not come from a traditional STEM background. However, after working as a research assistant on various projects for Keele University, performing data analysis on complex and sensitive data, she developed a passion for data analysis and handling. Paula ended up joining Sparta Global to improve her understanding and kickstart a career in tech, before rejoining us as an Academy Trainer.

  • Astha Shaw (Java):

Astha is a Prince2 and Prince2 Agile certified Project Manager with an extensive background in software engineering. In India, she was a CSR Programme Manager for a large retailer, responsible for managing portfolio projects. Now a Tech Trainer at Sparta Global, Astha trains our candidates in SQL, Java, Agile and Business. In addition she is also a trustee of a registered UK charity - Ignite Hubs - which focuses on developing technological skills in children and teens.
