Event description

Description

Join us for an evening of talks focusing on the role of women in engineering. We'll be joined by Carol Morris, the Deputy Head of the School of Engineering and Innovation at The Open University and Zoe Laughlin, the founder/director of the Institute of Making and the Materials Library project.

Carol has been associated with the Open University since 1982. Her main interest is encouraging women to study and work in engineering.

Zoe works at the interface of the science, art, craft and design of materials. Zoe currently features on the Big Life Fix, a new BBC2 three-part series following a group of designers, engineers, programmers and tech experts as they face the challenge of coming up with interventions that will transform the lives of people all over the UK.

We'd love for you to join us afterwards for a chat and a glass of wine.

Women of Steel is a project we've initiated to explore the role of women in manufacturing and industry.

Between October 2016 and February 2017 we are hosting a series of talks and workshops from our pop-up shop and making space in the heart of Sheffield. The aim is to progress conversations around key themes such as trades, technology, manufacturing and engineering and give as many people as possible the chance to get involved.

Line Cut Supply produces made-to-order women's workwear from our studio based in Sheffield. We are passionate about empowering, motivating and encouraging women to get making.

This work was supported by the Sheffield Culture Consortium through Year of Making 2016, Making Ways and Arts Council England Ambition for Excellence.
