Women Walking the City at Night, a collective drift under the full harvest moon
6th October, 8pm. Meeting at Stroud Railway Station, Station Road, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 3AP.
With the desire to go for a real walk, we will meet at the designated spot above and walk following the moon’s trajectory. This is an aesthetic, relational and political experience that allows us to walk together, at night, in the same direction — despite the distance.
We begin by reading a short text and taking a group photograph before setting off, walking in the direction of the full moon. Any woman who joins along the way is welcome. Anyone may leave the walk at any time. The walk ends when only four people are still walking, or when the group collectively decides to conclude it.
There is no charge for this walk, although a donation of £5 per person would be gratefully received.
Please wear sensible shoes, wrap up warmly and bring water to drink. We will be walking by the canal and on street pavements in the dark.
With Tamsin Grainger and Lucy Guenot
History of the event: Since 2021, we have held this walk each year. Across the world, the total duration of all the walks put together will span approximately 24 hours, following the time zones from Australia to Mexico.
