About this event

There is nothing scarier than an angry woman, there is nothing more demonised than an angry woman. Across history women's anger has been dismissed and punished, from scold's bridals to hysteria and incarceration. Women's relationship with anger is deeply problematic as women are fighting the expectation of being the lover, the carer, the peace maker not the shield maiden. Virginia Woolf had to kill this passive creature, the Angel in the House in order to write whole, angry and truthfully. In this very powerful workshop we will kill our angels and explore ways to channel our anger with power, with pride and with creative license. We will look at angry female writers and angry female characters (Anne Sexton, Sylvia Plath, Audre Lorde, Claudia Rankine) and we will make our own tinder box of words to legitimise woman's rage. There will be some movement involved in this workshop - please make sure you are somewhere you feel confident to make some weird loud noises!
