About this event
Have you ever when a warning light suddenoh appears on your dashboard? Or maybe you've found youself looking to buy a new car, and you've not got a clue where to start, what to look for and if you're asking the right questions. You're not alone! We've been there and that’s why we’re running this Car Care Basics Class - a fun, practical, and empowering session designed to help you understand and take care of your car, without feeling overwhelmed.
Led by expert female mechanic Louise Baker from Womanic Ltd, this workshop is all about real skills you can use in everyday life - from checking your oil to changing a tyre and even opening your bonnet. You don’t need any experience, just a willingness to learn alongside a small group of supportive women.
What You’ll Learn:
🔍 Different parts of your car - what’s under the bonnet, and why it matters.
🛢️What your car needs - how to check and top up oil, coolant, and screen wash.
🛞 All about your tyres - checking pressure, tread depth, and when it’s time for a new set.
🔧 Changing a spare wheel - step-by-step guidance on doing it safely and with confidence.
💡 Lights & Wipers - how to change bulbs and replace wiper blades in minutes.
⚠️ Warning lights - what they mean and when to take action.
🚘 Buying a used car? - learn what to check before handing over your money.
Bring Your Own Car (if you have one)!
To make the workshop as useful as possible, bring your own car so you can learn directly on the vehicle you drive every day. If you don’t have a car, no worries! You’ll be paired with one of our volunteers who will have a car for you to practice on.
Who’s It For?
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, we’re able to offer this workshop for free for women in Leicester and Leicestershire, who meet the following criteria:
- Women aged 18-35
- Based in Leicester or Leicestershire
- Experienced Fatherlessness - at some point in their childhood or adulthood, experienced life without a father figure and may have missed out on learning certain life skills traditionally passed down by a male role model.
As with every Women Who Can workshop, this is more than just learning new skills - it’s about building confidence, meeting like-minded women, and creating a supportive space where we lift each other up.
We hope you can join us!
Please note: By registering for, or attending any, Women Who Can (CIO) event or activity, you agree to be recognised as part of our Women Who Can Community, if eligible.
Frequently asked questions
We consider fatherlessness to be growing up or living without a father figure actively present in your life. This could be due to many reasons, like separation, loss, or a breakdown in the relationship. It’s about recognising the gap some women may feel from not having that male role model.
This class is for women aged 18-35 in Leicester or Leicestershire who’ve experienced life without a father figure, whether it was during childhood or adulthood. It’s all about giving you the chance to learn skills you may have missed out on while empowering you to feel confident and capable.
Nope! Thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery Community Fund, this class is completely free for women who meet the eligibility requirements. Keep an eye on our events calendar - we’ve got plenty more free workshops coming your way throughout 2025!
Whatever makes you feel comfortable! We recommend warm clothing and flat shoes (e.g trainers) as we’ll be outside for part of the class.
To make the workshop as useful as possible, bring your own car so you can learn directly on the vehicle you drive every day. If you don’t have a car, no worries! You’ll be paired with one of our volunteers who will have a car for you to practice on.
