Women's History Month - Helen Rappaport
Wed 22 March 2017, 18:00 – 19:00 GMT
In celebration of Women's History Month, author and former actress Helen Rappaport will be shedding light on the remarkable life of Madame Rachel, a 19th century trickster, blackmailer and beautician.
Helen appeared in a number of television series, including Crown Court and The Bill, becoming a full-time author in 1998. Her work includes Ekaterinbug: The Last Days of the Romanovs (2008), which became a bestseller in the USA, Conspirator: Lenin in Exile (2009).
Her 2010 book Beautiful For Ever holds a mirror to the Victorian cosmetics industry and tells the story of Madame Rachel, who was able to blackmail many of her clients via her beauty salon, and also made exaggerated claims as to the efficacy of her beauty products.
