Join us for this anniversary event celebrating 50 years since the first Women's Liberation Conference!

Held on the site of the former Ruskin college - the original venue for the 1970 conference - the day will be packed full of conversations, panel discussions and reflections.

This is an inclusive event and all are welcome to attend. The event is free but donations towards running costs are appreciated. Please donate via our PayPal.

PROGRAMME

10:30-11:00 registration and refreshments.

11:00-11:15 welcome and introduction given by Tracy Walsh (Oxford International Women's Festival), Selina Todd and John Watts (Oxford University History Faculty).

11:15-12:00 reflections on the 1970s conference given by Sue O’Sullivan, Sally Alexander, Sheila Rowbotham, Stella Dadzie, Barbara Winslow and Roberta Hunter-Henderson. Also a rendition of Bread and Roses, sung by the Didcot Red Kites Socialist Street Choir.

12:00-12:45 tribute to Sue Crockford given by Jane Grant and Sue Finch, followed by a film screening of 'A Woman's Place'.

12:45-14:00 lunch break and a chance to write something on the 'Reflections Wall'.

14:00-14:45 'Feminisms Today: Conversations Across 50 Years of Activism' panel discussion with Hilary Wainwright, Alice Robson and Lola Olufemi, chaired by Laura Schwartz.

14:45-15:30 'The Intersection of Race and Gender - Challenging the Double Oppression' conversation with Rose Chantiluke, Jabu Nala-Hartley, Stella Dadzie and Melba Wilson.

15:30-15:45 comfort break and refreshments.

15:45-16:30 'Changing Herstory: Challenging Sexism in the Music Industry' by the Young Women's Music Project.

16:30-17:15 'A Reflection on Women’s Work - 1960s/70s and Now' conversation with Marilyn Porter, Fenella Porter and Aleena Din.

17:15-18:00 interactive singing workshop with Liz Hodgson followed by closing remarks and reflections.

18:00-18:30 wine reception.


All conference delegates are then invited to the Young Women's Music Project 20th anniversary party starting at 19:00 at the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Centre in Oxford. More information here.
