About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

We have opened up our workshop for you to come and fix your own bike in a friendly women’s only space. Open Workshop allows you to use our tools to fix and maintain your own bike, with support from our female mechanic and volunteers.

Please note this is not a taught session, or a session where we will fix your bike for you, but we will provide support and advice to empower you to carry out your own maintenance. Female mechanics will be on hand to offer help and advice throughout the session. There’s also the internet, peer support and bike maintenance manuals to assist you whilst you’re waiting.

This is a perfect opportunity to have a go at fixing your bike at your own pace. We also offer a variety of bike maintenance courses that are a great place to gain some knowledge and experience before putting your skills into action.

We can offer support with jobs on your bike such as:

  • Fixing and changing inner tubes
  • Changing tyres
  • Changing brake pads
  • Changing brake cables
  • Changing gear cables
  • Indexing gears
  • Cleaning components and oiling your bike
  • Adding pannier racks, mudguards and accessories (provided by you).

Our professional fully equipped tool boards and work stands are available for 1.5 hour bookings throughout the workshop. If you think your bike will take longer than an hour and a half we advise you to book two slots – three hours. These sessions run at least monthly.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be free flowing but feel free to bring your own snacks too.

This session is organised by Women in Tandem, a Community Interest Company based in Nottingham that aims to support and empower women to ride bikes. This workshop is funded by our Reaching Communities project.

Small generic parts such as cables, pads and tubes are included and we can help fit them.

We also stock a selection of other bike parts that you could buy and fit onto your bike during the session. We can also order parts for the bike for you to fit at a different session.

Note this session is open to self-identifying women only.
