What do you mean by fatherlessness?

We consider fatherlessness to be growing up or living without a father figure actively present in your life. This could be due to many reasons, like separation, loss, or a breakdown in the relationship. It’s about recognising the gap some women may feel from not having that male role model.

Question 2

Who is this Self-Defence Class for?

Accepted Answer

This class is for women aged 18-35 in Leicester or Leicestershire who’ve experienced life without a father figure, whether it was during childhood or adulthood. It’s all about giving you the chance to learn skills you may have missed out on while empowering you to feel confident and capable.

Question 3

What if I’m not in the 18-35 age group?

Accepted Answer

While priority spaces are reserved for women aged 18-35, don’t worry! If we have space available closer to the date, we’ll be opening up spots for others to join. Register your interest, and we’ll be in touch!

Question 4

Do I need to pay?

Accepted Answer

Nope! Thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery Community Fund, this class is completely free. Keep an eye on our events calendar—we’ve got plenty more free workshops coming your way throughout 2025!

Question 5

Do I need prior experience in self-defence?

Accepted Answer

Not at all! This class is designed for absolute beginners. Whether you’ve never tried self-defence before or just want to brush up on some skills, we’ll guide you through easy-to-remember techniques that work in real-life situations.

Question 6

What should I wear?

Accepted Answer

Whatever makes you feel comfortable and ready to move! We recommend gym clothes/leggings, loungewear or anything that won’t restrict your movement.

Question 7

Do I need to bring anything?

Accepted Answer

The only thing you need to remember to bring is yourself! We’ll provide everything you need for the class, including light refreshments, so there’s no need to worry about equipment or materials.

Question 8

Can I come alone?

Accepted Answer

Of course! Many women attend solo, and it’s a great chance to meet like-minded women. We’ll have a designated person to introduce you to others and help you feel at ease throughout the session in a welcoming, supportive environment.

What if I can’t make it?

Accepted Answer

Life happens - we completely get it! If you can no longer make it, just let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to someone else.
