Event Details

Multi-award winning TV Broadcaster and Producer, Leah Charles-King alongside 01-Zero One, invite you to "Wonder Women". An evening of inspirational insight into the world of business, media, fashion and entrepreneurialism delivered by women specifically within the BAME community.

You are invited to share the trials and triumphs of a panel of four remarkable women who are successfully working within their fields to break through the "glass ceiling" most women face; and how by using their expertise they actively help others in reaching their goals.

Topics for discussion:

  • How to break into the industry?
  • Which challenges do you face?
  • How can you assist others through female activism?
  • How can you create a work/life balance?


This will be followed by a Q&A in addition to a networking event accompanied by complimentary refreshments in a relaxed and informal setting.

** This event is open to men and women in or out of the BAME community but with a special interest in women in business, media and entrepreneurs

Doors open at 5:30pm, event starts at 6pm prompt.

Leah Charles-King

Known for her vivacious character and engaging personality, the London based presenter has approached a milestone of 13 years in the media and TV industry alone. Leah Charles-King began her career as a child actress at the age of 5. Her television career started in 2001 as the first black female continuity Presenter on Children’s ITV in its current 31 year history. Proceeding this, Leah enjoyed 10 years in the music industry as a member of chart selling girl-band, Kleshay eventually signed to Sony Music.

Since then Leah has presented and appeared in shows for ITV, BBC, The Disney Channel, on Sky TV and more , including as a red carpet correspondent for international American network BET (Black Entertainment Television). Leah has enjoyed industry recognition by receiving the prestigious Screen Nation Award for Best Youth and Children’s Presenter, and also as the recipient of the “Best Woman in Media” accolade from the Wise Women Foundation.

Leah is the founder and MD of The Red Carpet Academy. The UK's only TV Presenter and Public Speaking training led by mainstream and celebrity TV Presenters and Experts!

Julianne Ponan

With a degree in Business Management and Finance, straight out of university Julianne started her journey working abroad in Beijing for an investment banking firm. A year later in 2012 at 22 years old, Julianne was back in the UK and became owner and CEO of Creative Nature a superfood brand. Within an 18 month period she had put the company back into profit, raising the brands profile and launching new product lines all with only 2 members of staff.

In the last year Julianne has taken Creative Nature from strength to strength launching the brand into High end retailers, Ocado and supermarket giant Tesco. She has also won Regional Young Entrepreneur of the year in the 2014 FSB awards. Since then Julianne has enjoyed speaking at Events, appearing as a Main Keynote Speaker alongside entrepreneurs James Caan, Richard Reed and Brad Burton, inspiring both female and male entrepreneurs.

Julianne is also the Youngest winner in The National Artemis Every Woman Awards 2014 for Women Entrepreneurs which was judged by some of Britains best known business owners Cath Kidston MBE, Chrissie Rucker MBE and many more. Julianne also won 3 awards in FSB Surrey Business awards for Young Person in Business, Real Life Entrepreneur and Overall Winner 2014. In spare time, Julianne has recently become a mentor for Virgin Startup and enjoys helping young entrepreneurs achieve their goals. She uses her own experiences in business and hopes to inspire women to have the drive and the determination to develop their businesses to the next level.

Sherry Dixon

Sherry Dixon is highly respected in the ethnic community in Britain and developed a following of dedicated readers with her health, lifestyle, beauty and relationship articles. She is known to the community as PR, Journalist, Lecturer, Public Speaker, Talk Show Host and the Editor for Pride Magazine in the UK where she has worked for over 10 years. Starting out as a Health & Beauty Editor of the magazine, Sherry became the Editor of Pride in 2004 and left to take up the post as Editor in Chief of SHE Caribbean in St Lucia. She has since returned to London to set up Sherry Dixon Consultancy, a Marketing and PR Consultancy and has also launched herself as an inspirational speaker. Sherry has also written for many publications including The Guardian, Sunday Observer, The Times and had a column titled “Dear Sherry” in The Voice Newspaper.

She has done numerous televisions and radio shows helping to dispel the myths surrounding the health and beauty for women of colour. In December 2006, Sherry was brought in as the official spokesperson on TV nationwide on issues pertaining to the detriment of using skin-bleaching creams. She was heard on the GMTV LK Today Show, London Tonight on ITN, BBC Radio worldwide and BBC News and most national radio programmes in the UK. Her accolades and achievements do not end there. Sherry initially started her career in Public Relations and true to form; from research she found that there was a lack of good positive articles about beauty and skincare for women of colour. She decided to study beauty and ultimately changed careers to become one of the UK’s most talked about beauty experts in relation to make-up and skin care for women of colour.

Denise Brown

UK Fashion Stylist, Consultant and Tutor Denise Brown, makes, creates and styles. Her passion and desire isn’t only to create distinctive looks; it’s to inspire and leave a lasting impression. A womenswear graduate from the world-renowned London College of Fashion, Denise acquired a strong adoration for fashion from the first time she picked up a needle and thread to hand sew her own outfit, aged just 12. She has worked alongside eminent fashion stylists such as Franklin Akinsete and Cynthia Lawrence-John, and her distinctive style has led her to dress some of the biggest names in pop culture including Kanye West, Rihanna, Eliza Doolittle and the Noisettes.

Denise’s international clientele include MTV, GMTV, Nickelodeon and Polaroid. Additionally, she has styled campaigns for Bench, New Era and Wale Adeyemi to name a few. Throughout her career, Denise has worked with a diverse range of photographers including Andres Reynaga, Arron Dunworth, Daniel Thomas, Uzo Oleh and Curtis Benjamin to produce striking high fashion shoots and urban, street style looks.

In 2007 Denise launched her own fashion label ‘Don’t Judge Me’- a collection inspired by her struggles, accomplishments and life lessons. The collection won the hearts of many celebrities including Mariah Carey and Tulisa from N Dubz, who both wore items from the collection. Don’t Judge Me captured the interest of the world’s media, allowing Denise to showcase her personal and original style on an international scale.
