Event description

Description

Coffee, croissants and comms. What could be a better way to start your day in #wonkcomms?

WonkComms have teamed up with Soapbox to offer the UK WonkComms community an regular opportunity to get together and discuss some of the big challenges of delivering communications in think tanks and research organisations.

Each Breakfast Club session covers a different topic and focuses on the practicalities of communications – whether you’re trying to improve email marketing or do better at engaging with Parliament.

Join us for the sixth session, ‘Using Tech at Events’ at 8.00am on 8 February 2017 at the Soapbox studio in central London. Please note that the start time is a bit earlier than previous sessions.

How can audience engagement at think tank events become improved through the targeted use of technology? Moving beyond the standard fare of roving mics and hashtags, new forms of technology - like virtual reality and real time voting -have shown to encourage audiences to interact with content in a more empathetic way.

Use of event technology will always be a part of a wider events strategy. But could virtual reality, interactive voting, using Facebook Live, providing resources in innovative ways, and using tech to co-produce event content offer practical ways to increase audience interaction and drive your messages home?

We’ll hear from Catherine Feltham, Film Manager at WaterAid, who will show us 'Aftershock', WaterAid's Virtual Reality film about post-earthquake Nepal. She will talk us through the process of making your own VR experience. Then Joseph Barnsley, Communications Officer at the LSE IDEAS think tank will speak about how he has used interactive voting at events before we open up the conversation for the remainder of the event.
