Woodblock Printing and Storytelling Workshop

About this Event
A two-day workshop exploring the histories and mythologies of Fitzrovia and Pollock’s Toy Museum; over both days we will create a collective story from the tales and images of the museum and its surrounding streets, from which each participant will create a wood carving and print it for themselves, learning various techniques. You will get exclusive access to the collection and the museum's printmaking workshop.
You will learn:
Local history
The safe use of woodcutting tools
How to print using a baren or wooden spoon
How to develop a story and imagery
Plus a wealth of printmaking tips
Each participant will take away with them a print of their woodcut, their own woodblock, and a new perspectives on the streets of Fitzrovia. No previous experience of wood block printing needed!
Cost: £150 (two day workshop 10am-5pm, all materials supplied)
Date: 27th -28th October 2020
Workshop leader: Seth Randall-Goddard, storyteller and printmaker
Day 1:
9:30- arrive and make introductions
10:30 - first tour of the area, collective storytelling begins
11:15 - tour of Pollocks/time spent sketching
lunchtime c. 12:30-1:30pm (depending on how the day is going)
From 1:30pm-5pm:
- tutorial on lino-cutting & printing
- create a drawing for the woodblock & start to carve into it. There'll be time here for individual tutorials and assistance, and we can look into the archive too.
Day 2:
10:00 - arrive and work on woodblock. This day is more relaxed; here there will be a lot of time for individual help and guidance. By the end of the day we will have printed a series of woodblock prints from your own block, and you can take them away with you in a cardboard case, or wait for them to dry on the racks. There will also be the opportunity to go round the museum again.

p.s. stringent safety measures are in place for making the space and the participants safe and secure from covid. The rooms are ventilated and masks are to be worn at all times when moving around the space. Each participant will have their own tools, own seating area, and will be given clear guidelines to protect themselves and others.
