Event description

Description

This workshop is aimed at beginners who would like to learn the basics of woodcarving. The course will start with an introduction to the different chisels used for woodcarving, including how to handle and sharpen them. The different types of wood used for woodcarving will also be discussed, along with the importance of working with the natural grain. We will then progress to using the chisels to practice carving wood using a mallet. Working towards a set project or your own design, you will gain confidence in the basics of chip carving and relief carving.

The course will be led by sculptor and professional woodcarver Laura Anderson, who combines her sculpture background with her knowledge of woodcarving to apply traditional woodcarving techniques to contemporary objects and pieces. Laura has recently finished a prestigious heraldic shield commission for the Fishmongers Company in London.

Please note that refunds and/or changes to ticket are available up to 7 days before course start date.
