This immersive, hands-on training day is ideal for Forest School practitioners seeking CPD opportunities, individuals interested in traditional greenwood working, or anyone looking to build confidence and competence in the use of sharp tools.

Set in a beautiful woodland environment, the course offers practical experience with a wide range of heritage tools, including:

  • Bow Saw
  • Pruning Saw
  • Drawknives
  • Froes
  • Billhooks
  • Drills

Guided by experienced instructors, you’ll learn how to use each tool safely and effectively, with a strong focus on choosing the right tool for the job, selecting suitable materials, and understanding how different woods behave. The course also covers essential maintenance, sharpening techniques, and your legal responsibilities when using edged tools.

Throughout the day, you’ll craft a variety of useful greenwood items — including a woodland mallet and a buck saw — to take home with you.

The price includes the use of all tools and materials necessary for your activities, ensuring you have everything you need at your disposal. Additionally, the kettle will be on throughout the day, allowing you to enjoy a constant supply of hot beverages. We offer a wide selection of tea, coffee, and biscuits for you to enjoy at your leisure, creating a comfortable and welcoming environment.

Course Details:

  • Location: Woodland site near Warminster, Wiltshire
  • Duration: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm (half-hour lunch break)
  • Course Fee: £75 a small booking fee may be added by Eventbrite
  • Age Requirement: Minimum age 18(younger students by arrangement)
  • Refreshments: Throughout the day a variety of teas and coffees will be available, and the kettle will be on for you to make a cuppa

We are situated near Warminster in the heart of Wiltshire, Southwest England, with easy access from Bristol, Bath, Salisbury, Southampton, Chippenham, Swindon, and London. The closest railway station is Warminster, approximately a 10-minute drive from our location.
