Woodland lino cutting
Sat 12 November 2016, 14:00 – 17:00 GMT
Learn the basics in lino cutting at this beginners workshop taught by local artist Jessica Sharville. Immerse yourself in the Digital Art Installation ‘Tales from Woodlandia’ at Patterns whilst learning how to carve lino and create a beautiful handmade print.
In this workshop you will learn how to plan a suitable design, carve the lino using the different tools and then print a black and white design. You will learn how to confidently carve onto softcut which is ideal for beginners and easier to cut than linoleum, you will also learn about the tools and techniques and what materials are available to start lino cutting from home.
At the workshop you will have the option to print a set of greeting cards or perhaps just a print. A5, A4 and blank cards will be provided.
Jessica Sharville is a freelance artist who studied Design Illustration at Plymouth University graduating in 2008, after learning different printmaking skills Jessica carried on creating lino cuts and wood cuts alongside pencil illustrations, computer vector illustrations, design work and paintings. Jessica sells her lino cut prints locally around Brighton and online and happily admits she is obsessed with lino and wood cutting and often spends her time when she isn't printmaking thinking about what she will be creating next.
Hopefully through this beginners workshop you will enjoy this satisfying and exciting craft and be able to carry on creating lino cuts from home with the knowledge you have learnt about the tools and equipment needed.
Please come with a design ready or at least an idea. Perhaps use the woodland theme of patterns as inspiration!
All materials will be provided and you will get to take home your lino cut and your set of prints (which we will attempt to dry in time!)
