Royal Cornwall Show
The Forestry Section of the Royal Cornwall Show is an excellent opportunity to showcase Cornish Forestry and wood products. If you would like to have a trade stand, exihibit/demonstrate or help please let me know asap and we can discuss your ideas. At the least it is an opportunity to post up your business card and contact details. If you would like to be included please send them to me by email using the 'contact the organiser' button below or hand it to me at the next Woodmeet.
Royal Cornwall Show Woodland Competition
There is still time to enter this year's competition. The committee would welcome entries from new entrants. For details visit http://royalcornwallshow.org/competitors/woodland-competitions
Funding: EAFRD "Calls for projects"
Please feel free to forward this message to anyone you think may be interested. The calls are open to food and drink processors, farmers, rural businesses in general (including social and community enterprises) and rural tourism providers.
The calls cover the following activity:-
- Food Processing (includes drink as well) – £3,000,000 allocation - for those of you receiving this email who are from a “large” company (over 250 employee’s and NOT on an agricultural holding) please note the significant change in the food processing rules. For new business activity you can now apply for up to a 25% grant whereas previously you were excluded from participating.
- Business development (including Farm Diversification) - £1,350,000
- Rural Tourism Infrastructure (NB the creation of new bed space is a very low priority for funding) - £2,175,000 allocation
Call documentation can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/rdpe-growth-programme
Future funding post Brexit is far from certain so at the moment the only certainty with regards to funding is contained within these calls and the LEADER Groups which are also live and looking for projects. See www.localactioncornwall.co.uk for details on LEADER. We are hopeful that additional calls will be launched later in the year.
In addition it is important to note that as a “less developed area” our budget is “protected” and cannot therefore be used elsewhere in England. However, that protection does not apply to other areas of England so if we can encourage more projects to come forward than we have the budget to support (and others do not) then the opportunity to draw additional funds into Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly does, in theory, exist. Sounds like a challenge and an opportunity to me.
Like never before we need to get the message out across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in order to make the most of this opportunity. It is important to note the dates in the documents as they are all saying final grant claims need to be submitted by 31st December 2019.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me and please circulate this email to any contacts you may have who may be interested. I am available to help people through the process if required and you may also be interested in attending the workshop planned for the 7th of February when the RPA and other swill be on hand to explain the detail.

You may already know that Crocadon Sawmill is unfortunately required to close this March due to a change in the farm's tenancy. I have spent over 30 year in the timber industry and have acquired a great collection of West Country timber to sell and which will be offered at auction in February. The closure of the mill is a great shame as we are one of the last outlets in this area to offer timber off the shelf. I would like to let you know that we are now in the last few weeks of trading before the online auction takes place between the 16th and 23rd February. Wood lots, machinery and equipment will be available to view via www.husseys.co.uk.
