Wool Weaving Workshop

Lead Facilitator: Iestyn Howorth

Workshop Summary: This workshop introduces participants to the tactile practice of stick weaving using sustainable, locally-sourced Scottish wool. It’s designed to offer an accessible, meditative, and educational experience that explores the fundamentals of weaving without the need for a loom. Participants will leave with their own woven piece and an understanding of how traditional techniques can intersect with contemporary design values.

Context: The workshop is part of my wider design residency with Oscillate. My practice centres on reintroducing overlooked or undervalued materials and techniques (like wool unsuitable for spinning) into new design systems.

Workshop Objectives:

•Introduce participants to weaving using a simple and intuitive method.

•Engage with Scottish wool as a culturally and materially significant fibre.

•Encourage tactile making and reflection on slowness, repetition, and care in craft.

•Create a shared learning space that bridges art, design, and education.
