About this event

Family & Education • Education

This course introduces Early Years practitioners to the Word Aware approach for supporting children’s vocabulary development. Word Aware Early Years is based on the same principals as Word Aware but has been adapted for Early Years children aged 3-5 years, focusing on the crucial early developing language, and including the ‘Concept Cat’ method to teach children early verbal concepts. Many children start school with poor vocabulary, so this course gives schools, nurseries and Early Years settings the practical ideas to make a difference.

Aims:

  • Build on good practice
  • Explore vocabulary development in Early Years
  • Learn a structured approach to teaching vocabulary in Early Years settings
  • Be inspired to develop children’s vocabulary.

Ideal for:

This course is suitable for any Early Years practitioners, working with children aged 3-5 years.

PLEASE NOTE: The course cost DOES NOT include the Word Aware Manual which is required to attend the training. It's available to purchase on Word Aware 2 - Teaching Vocabulary in the Early Years. If your setting already has a manual, please ensure it is the latest edition and bring it with you on the day of the training. Please also be aware that there is only manual required per setting i.e. a teacher and a teaching assistant attending from the same setting only require one manual between them.

Please note: This course will be run as an online training session via Microsoft Teams. When you book, you will receive information about how to access the training and how the session will be run. You will receive emails and the invite from sltleedstraining@nhs.net.

Please note that our training courses and workshops are designed to be interactive, to ensure participants get the most from the session. With this in mind, we ask that you check to ensure that both your camera and microphone are working prior to the course.

Each person attending the training needs to purchase an individual ticket. Several participants may join the training from the same device but each participant must have purchased an individual ticket. Additional participants who have not bought a ticket are not allowed to sit and watch the training, either in or out of the camera view, and will be asked to leave.
