About this event
- Event lasts 6 hours 30 minutes
Word Aware is a structured whole school approach to promote the vocabulary development of all children. Focused on whole class learning, the resource is of particular value for those who start at a disadvantage – including children with Developmental Language Disorder, Special Educational Needs and those who speak English as an additional language, but it will extend the word learning of all students.
Word Aware is a fast-paced, fun and interactive workshop style day. You will leave the day with lots of practical ideas on how to develop vocabulary in your school.
Aims:
• Explore how children learn vocabulary and why it is important
• Put the new curriculum guidance on vocabulary into practice
• Learn a structured approach to teaching vocabulary in the classroom
• Plan how you will support vocabulary in your setting
Ideal for:
This course is suitable for Speech and Language Therapists, Class Teachers, curriculum coordinators, specialist teachers, Head teachers, SENCOs and Educational Psychologists.
PLEASE NOTE: The course cost DOES NOT include the Word Aware Manual which is required to attend the training. It's available to purchase on Word Aware 1: Teaching Vocabulary Across the Day, Across the Curriculum. If your setting already has a manual, please ensure it is the latest edition and bring it with you on the day of the training. Please also be aware that there is only manual required per setting i.e. a teacher and a teaching assistant attending from the same setting only require one manual between them.
Please note: This course will be run as an online training session via Microsoft Teams. When you book, you will receive information about how to access the training and how the session will be run. You will receive emails and the invite from sltleedstraining@nhs.net.
Please note that our training courses and workshops are designed to be interactive, to ensure participants get the most from the session. With this in mind, we ask that you check to ensure that both your camera and microphone are working prior to the course.
Each person attending the training needs to purchase an individual ticket. Several participants may join the training from the same device but each participant must have purchased an individual ticket. Additional participants who have not bought a ticket are not allowed to sit and watch the training, either in or out of the camera view, and will be asked to leave.
