Word In Your Ear presents a night of Soul and Psychedelia
Mon 28 November 2016, 19:00 – 22:00 GMT
On Monday November 28, we’re hosting an evening about two of the greatest pioneers in industry history – Berry Gordy, the power behind the Motown throne, and Jac Holzman, the man who built Elektra.
David Hepworth will be talking to Adam White about his new book ‘Motown: The Sound Of Young America’, so expect vivid tales of Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations and the Jackson 5. And Mick Houghton, the author of ‘Becoming Elektra’, will look back at the visionary label who signed the scintillating Love, The Doors, the Stooges and Tim Buckley. |t’ll be fascinating stuff: lids will be lifted on both these epic organisations and their magical inner workings revealed.
And to get the show rolling we have Richard Houghton whose collection of enthralling stories ‘I Was There’ features support bands, promoters, audience members and other fortunate souls who had colourful encounters with The Beatles. He put out a similar book on the Stones, too.
