To mark the release of Bob Dylan's 36th studio album, the fiftieth anniversary of him "going electric" but mainly because we feel like it, our next Word In Your Ear evening at The Islington is on Monday February 2nd and it takes the form of of a Bobcast dedicated entirely to the enigma we call Bob Dylan.
Mark Ellen and David Hepworth will be joined by two distinguished guests, Sid Griffin and Barb Jungr, both of whom are closer to Dylan's music than most.
Apart from his work with the Long Ryders and Coal Porters, Sid Griffin has had a life-long fascination with Dylan and has recently written Million Dollar Bash, a book about The Basement Tapes.
Among Barb Jungr's acclaimed recording output you'll find no less than four albums of Dylan songs. The latest is Hard Rain. The Village Voice described her as "one of the best interpreters of Bob Dylan anywhere on this angst-ridden planet today".
Barb and Sid will be joining Mark and David to talk about all aspects of Dylan's life and career, from the serious, chin-stroking stuff through the light, trivial side to the richly comic aspects that used to keep us so amused in the Word office.
In keeping with the Word In Your Ear tradition, the evening's conversation will be accompanied, illustrated and punctuated with a full magic lantern show.
And in keeping with the same tradition, this will start at 7:30, be over for 9:00 and will be subsequently available as a podcast.
However, if you've been to previous Word In Your Ear evenings at the Islington you'll know that nothing can compare to being there. Book your seats now.
When & Where
Word In Your Ear
Word In Your Ear evenings are put together by Word Magazine veterans David Hepworth and Alex Gold, and seek to provide something over and above the usual night of live music in a pub.
