Event description
Write, scribble and explore the world around you with Nottingham Poetry Festival.

About this event

Nottingham Poetry Festival invites you to a creative wander around the historical Bulwell. Beginning at Bulwell Riverside Library, we will explore our surroundings to write observations, thoughts and memories with guidance from local poet Sonia Burns.

The Nottingham Poetry Festival team will greet you at Reception with clipboards, paper and pens, inviting you to respond to the library and its surroundings by writing, doodling and chatting, all guided by Sonia.

We welcome everyone to a fun day of getting the pens out, and especially invite anyone new to poetry. With prompts and helpful advice from Sonia and the Nottingham Poetry Festival team, you will be given a kickstart to writing in a local area full of stories.

The Word Walk will end at the starting point at 3pm, when you will be asked to hand in a page or two of your work. The Nottingham Poetry Festival team will then turn the afternoon’s scribbles into a zine (small publication) as part of a series based around Word Walk locations in Nottingham - the collection will be launched at the 2022 Nottingham Poetry Festival on Saturday 7 May.

Please note anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Other Word Walk Dates

Green’s Windmill with Leanne Moden – Sunday 16 January

Nottingham Contemporary with Caroline Stancer – Saturday 12 February, 1pm-3pm

See nottinghampoetryfestival.com for more details.

About Word Walks

Nottingham Poetry Festival’s series of outdoor creative writing workshops inspired by local places, hosted by local writers. From Old Market Square and Victoria Park, to University Park's Lakeside, we've taken clipboards and pens to investigate and create. Following each Word Walk, attendees' scribbles, poems and creations are included in a zine - the collection will be launched at the 2022 Nottingham Poetry Festival.
