Event description
Write, scribble and explore the world around you with Nottingham Poetry Festival.

About this event

Nottingham Poetry Festival invites you to a creative wander around the inspiring Green’s Windmill & Science Centre.

The Nottingham Poetry Festival team will greet you in the Activity Room with clipboards, paper and pens, inviting you to respond to the environment of Green’s Windmill & Science Centre creatively by writing, doodling and chatting, all guided by Lead Writer Leanne Moden.

We welcome everyone to a fun day of getting the pens out, and especially invite anyone new to poetry. With prompts and helpful advice from Leanne and the Nottingham Poetry Festival team, you will be given a kickstart to writing in a space steeped in history, science and flour.

The Word Walk will end at the Activity Room starting point at 3pm, when you will be asked to hand in a page or two of your work.

The Nottingham Poetry Festival team will then turn the afternoon’s scribbles into a zine (small publication) as part of a series based around Word Walk locations in Nottingham.

Please note anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

About Word Walks

Nottingham Poetry Festival’s series of outdoor creative writing workshops inspired by local places, hosted by local writers. From Old Market Square and Victoria Park, to University Park's Lakeside, we've taken clipboards and pens to investigate and create. Following each Word Walk, attendees' scribbles, poems and creations are included in a zine - the collection will be launched at the 2022 Nottingham Poetry Festival.

About Green’s Windmill and Science Centre

Green’s Mill is a restored and working nineteenth-century tower windmill in Nottingham, UK. In the early 1800s it was owned and operated by the mathematical physicist George Green (1793-1841) who made many discoveries about electricity, magnetism, light, sound and wave motion.
