Wordkeys: The 4D Translation Game! For European Day of Languages 2016
WHAT: In celebration of European Day of Languages, we present an interactive linguistic journey in and around Notting Hill Gate for the curious and adventurous. This is a free game that explores the ways translation and foreign languages connect people and cultures from around the world... Take part in a treasure hunt that traverses languages to uncover the secret links that bind us all together! A collaboration between literary translator Rosalind Harvey and the European Commission. No prior language knowledge required!
WHERE: Meet outside Notting Hill Gate tube station at your selected time (see below). The game ends at a nearby mystery destination where players will receive food and drink and a languages goody-bag, and have the chance to play more language games with others, with live music from 2.30pm!
WHEN: Saturday, September 24th. The game will run several times, starting at half-hourly intervals between 11:30am and 2:00pm - please choose your time slot when you book and turn up 10 minutes before that time! The game should last between 30 minutes and one hour.
HOW MUCH: The game is free of charge but numbers are limited and booking is required. If you book and can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket and let the organisers know immediately so that others can take your place.
HOW: Players assemble at the meeting point – look for the 'European Commission Representation in the UK' pop-up banner and the two games organisers, who will be wearing red and blue t-shirts. When everyone is ready, we will divide you into two teams and give you instructions, plus the mystery items you need to play: sealed envelopes, locked boxes, phrasebooks... Both teams are then separated and must not speak to or approach each other!
Following your instructions, you will explore the streets and buildings of this beautiful part of London, using your phrasebooks to translate the clues you have been given, and ultimately discovering what’s inside your mystery box and reaching a surprising outcome. No knowledge of foreign languages required, just a sense of fun and adventure! We look forward to playing with you!
