 Why fundraising copy matters

Whether it’s a donation appeal, an event invite, or a supporter thank you – the words you choose can make all the difference. But fundraising copy isn’t just about being persuasive. It’s about writing ethically, empathetically, and with your audience in mind.

In this practical workshop, you’ll explore how to craft fundraising messages that resonate with supporters and inspire action – while staying true to your charity’s voice and values.

If you are a People's Postcode Lottery grantee and the session is fully booked or your code isn’t being accepted, please email cassandrab@mediatrust.org to be added to the waitlist.

What you’ll learn

With real examples from across the sector and plenty of time to ask questions, this interactive session will equip you with the tools and confidence to improve your fundraising copy. We’ll cover:

  • The psychology of giving and what motivates donors
  • How to understand your audience and speak their language
  • How to write for different fundraising types – from appeals and events to major giving
  • How to adapt your message across formats like direct mail, reports and social media
  • How to write ethically and avoid guilt-driven messaging
