Description
Poems, images and conversation in creative communication with people who have dementia
Facilitator Paula Jennings
With input from library staff on the Dementia Library.
In this workshop we will look at how we might engage creatively with people who have dementia. We will discuss how poems, visual images and deep listening can be utilised working one-to-one, to encourage people to express their thoughts, opinions and feelings and, if appropriate, make collaborative poems. The emphasis will be on relating to the person, not the dementia-label.
Maureen Sangster, Project Manager, Words Work Well, will be on hand to introduce participants to the Words Work Well Toolkit, an online resource.
A tour of the Dementia Library, led by a library staff member, will take place in the last half hour of the session.
Before coming on this course, you may find it helpful to browse our website: http://wordsworkwellscotland.co.uk/ - a bibliotherapy toolkit for facilitators.
