Event description
Work in progress tour of the Cat & Fiddle, with a talk, a stroll around the building, including two tall drinks and two whisky samples

About this Event

This summer has been strange one, and has hampered our progress with the refurbishment of the Cat & Fiddle, however, some parts of the building are now dry, warm, safe, and ready to welcome you!

This is an exciting chance for you to come and enjoys some drinks in an informal (Covid-secure) setting in the old pub.

Here’s what you can expect:

Be one of the first to enjoy a drink again at the Cat & Fiddle. We’ll give you a chat about how we create our award winning spirits at the Forest Distillery, and show you our plans for the old building here. Then, enjoy a whisky tasting experience and have a sneaky peek down in the cellars.

Arrival drink

Forest Whisky soda on arrival (Gin, Wine, Beer & Soft drinks also available on request).

History of The Cat and Fiddle

One of our team will talk you through the remarkable birth, demise, and 9th life of the Cat and Fiddle along with how Covid-19 has affected our developments. We will also touch on our plans and hopes for the future.

Forest Distillery

Learn how we came to create our award winning spirits at the distillery down the hill with an introduction to the botanicals and the process of distillation. Enjoy a tasting experience of our Whisky

Break

Another drink of your choice will be served accompanied with a description of the perfect serve. Step outside, relax and breath easy in the fresh Peak District air.

Tour of the cellars

We'll take you down to the Cat and Fiddle cellars which are still rough and ready and tell you about our intentions to fill them with maturing whisky and give you the chance to ask any questions that you may have about them.

Please note that we are in a remote location so a designated driver or some forward planning will be required.

Due to our remote location, we reserve the right to cancel the event at short notice in the event of poor weather conditions (snow!). In such an event, you will be offered an alternative date.

We have no WiFi and our heating is still being modernised, so please wrap up warm and be prepared to disconnect whilst here.

FAQ

How have your tours been affected by Covid-19?

Building work was completely halted while we were in lockdown so our tour is now very much a ‘work in progress.

We are extremely confident that our tours are one of the safest activities that you can book right now. We're in a very remote location, all of our staff have regular temperature & health checks, the Cat & Fiddle is deep cleaned regularly, and you will not come into close contact with others during your visit.

In order to comply with social distancing rules, we have reduced the capacity from 26 to 20. We have added extra tours to reflect this.

We have also set up hand sanitiser stations and encourage customers to wash their hand regularly.

Due to current regulations, groups must be from the same household. Please do not book with people outside your household. If you have friends booked onto the same tour, then please let us know and we will try to seat you at adjacent tables.

As soon as you arrive, you will be assigned to a 'zone'. The zone you are assigned will be just for those within your social bubble. Therefore, please let us know at the time of booking if you are attending with a group who have booked separately.

Please remember to bring a mask with you as you are required by law to wear one while moving around our premises. We ask that all attendees must wear a facial covering to wear in line with the advisory ‘1mtr and extra safety precautions required’ guidelines when we are down in the cellars.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Over 18's only, but challenge 25 is a policy we operate at all times. Please don't be offended if we ask for ID.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The Cat and Fiddle has parking but this is limited to approximately 30 cars, so we would encourage car sharing within the advised Covid-19 guidelines. Alternatively, car parking is available on the lay-by opposite the pub. Disabled car parking is available; any special requirements please let us know in advance.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Any questions don't hesitate to email or call Kim and she will do her best to help: team@catfiddleweasel.com / 01298 73711.

What's the refund policy?

Unfortunately tickets are non refundable and can not be exchanged for another date.

Is it OK if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Under normal circumstances we would say yes. However, for track and trace purposes the ticket or registration must match the person who attends.

Do you allow dogs and children?

Unfortunately dogs and children are not permitted on the tour. The Cat and Fiddle takeaway shop is open to the general public from Wednesday to Sunday every week 10.00 am until 4.00 pm. This shop does welcome children and dogs.

Where can I go for lunch nearby?

The Stanley Arms is a short walk away and has an excellent, hearty, English pub style menu. Alternatively, the Tegg's Nose tea room is a 5 minute drive away.

Can I Buy a Bottle?

Purchases of an extra whiskey, a whisky ginger or a bottle are available from the bar. Most major credit cards are accepted but we are not accepting cash payments at this time.

Can I smoke on site?

We do not currently have a whisky still on site but we would kindly request, smokers do so in the designated smoking area.

Is the bar open afterwards?

We allow an additional 30 minutes at the end of your tour for any further drinks. If we have another tour booked, then I'm afraid that we will have to kick you out onto the Moor once they arrive!
