Description

We are delighted to announce Professor Dame Carol Black as our Elizabeth Blackwell Annual Public Lecture speaker 2019. Dame Carol is expert government advisor on health and work, and an inspirational leader. In this year's lecture she will talk about her influential campaigns on mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, something of great importance to so many of us.

Dame Carol is Principal of Newnham College Cambridge and Expert Advisor on Health and Work to NHS England and Public Health England. She chairs the board of Think Ahead, the Government’s fast-stream training programme for Mental Health Social Workers.

She has compiled three independent reviews for the UK Government: of the health of the working-age population; of sickness absence in Britain; and more recently of employment outcomes of addiction to drugs or alcohol, or obesity.

Dame Carol is a past-President of the Royal College of Physicians, of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, and of the British Lung Foundation, and past-Chair of the Nuffield Trust for health policy.

This is a free University of Bristol event, seats are unallocated and the talk will start promptly at 6.30 pm so please arrive in plenty of time.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to our annual public lecture at 6.30pm on the 21st October 2019 at The Wills Memorial Building, Queen's Road, Bristol BS8 1RL.
