Every business in the UK has their eye on flexible working. If they aren't considering it now, they will be within a year...

Wherever you go for your business news - online, newspapers, LinkedIn - one topic keeps appearing again and again - 'flexible working'. Whatever flavour, whether it's 4 days working, remote working, unlimited holidays... or generally how to support your teams in balancing their personal lives with their work lives - the conversation keeps coming round again and again.

At LightStart, we founded our organisation working 4 days a week for a 5 day salary, before eventually moving to 'work anytime' with unlimited holidays. Our original 'Working Differently' event was a huge success, bringing together businesses with 'non-traditional' structures to explain their approaches. Since then, we've been delivering workshops and training to businesses on the pros, cons and pitfalls when migrating to flexible working... and now we are offering the benefit of what we've learned via our first public training session.

If you're a business who's thinking about changing your structures, but doesn't know practically what the impact might be, this course is aimed directly at you and your teams.

Where do we start?

Flexible working means many different things to different people, mainly because there are so many different variations - each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

We unpack each of the different concepts in an interactive, logical and easy to digest way.

1. What does 9 to 5 look like at your business?

From the attendees, we capture the variety of patterns, constraints, and structures that people group together under the heading of '9 to 5.'

2. How do you and others 'patch' your lives?

Everyone in some way 'patches' their lives to make them fit with traditional working patterns - childcare, travel arrangements, using friend's and family... altering your personal life to fit your work life.

3.The 'sliding scale' of flexible working

Flexible working is a sliding scale, from the most fixed, traditional structures imaginable across to total flexibility. We use this to begin introducing the many different concepts you should be considering when looking at moving to something new.

4. The Concepts

As we introduce each concept of flexible working, we 'unpack it' - what it means, how it works in practice, how you might start using it.

5. The Requirements

There are a number of requirements a business needs to be able to meet, in order to unlock the possibilities of flexible working - things like 'trust' and 'transparency'. We introduce each an work through why each isn't just important, it's mandatory.

6. The Enablers

We introduce the systems and processes you need to be considering alongside the structure, in order to enable flexible differently. This includes recommendations of systems, processes and technologies based on our experiences.

7. Finally...

We finish our session by talking about what Flexible Working is not - along with what blockers attendees feel exist to rolling it out at their business. This forms the basis of an opportunity for Q & A between ourselves and attendees, to help answer any specific queries not already answered.

----

This training session is delivered within a city centre location, and takes 3-4 hours including the Q&A. It begins with a free breakfast, and tea and coffee are available throughout.

A set of useful training notes covering the topics discussed will be provided after the training event is completed.
