Working Knowledge - Harrow College. Supporting students to excel in the wo...
Wed 2 November 2016, 09:45 – 17:00 GMT
The College Management Team at Harrow College know that they have a great opportunity to better match the 1900+ pool of talented students that they work with each year to the requirements of business and the work place in general.
Over the last year we have had a number of sessions with over 100 local employers and entrepreneurs that have helped the college management and staff to think differently about how to gain better alignment for a win-win-win for business, education and young people. The impact has been profoundly positive but there is much left to do.
On the 2nd November 2016 we will run a structured and facilitated session to enable college staff to benefit from your commercial expertise and experience to help their ambitious plans for their college, the local business community and ultimately young people launching their careers.
For further information on the Business Volunteer role please watch a video of a similar event we ran with another College: https://vimeo.com/143234596
What happens on the day?
Staff from a selection of curriculum subject areas will be grouped with professionals from relevant industries and will take part in a series of facilitated conversations and workshops throughout the day. You will be addressing the challenges faced by employers when looking for skilled new employees, suggesting ways the College could better engage with local businesses and sharing your thoughts about what skills and experience potential employers look for in a new employee. You will also have the opportunity to hear from educators about the problems they are confronted with when getting their students work ready.
The key aims of the day are:
• to help the staff become more aware of the needs of industry
• to make curriculum more relevant to the work place
• to build links between the College and local employers
The College are particularly keen to engage with professionals who have backgrounds in: Art/Media, Business (including Sales and Marketing, Operations, HR, Management, Finance), Construction, Engineering, Hair & Beauty, Health & Care, IT, Science and Sport.
