Event description

Description

This training day will seek to provide answers the multitude of questions surrounding counselling over the telephone and video calls:

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages of working on the phone or with video calls?

  • How is working on the phone and video calls likely to impact the counselling session itself?

  • What particular skills do I need to learn or focus on in this work?

  • What about contracts?

  • How can I take payments easily?

Most of us were trained to do face-to-face work, but many clients are now wanting to work on the telephone or with video calls - either as a way of engaging with a counsellor out of their own area, or as a way of more conveniently fitting counselling into their busy life-styles. Successfully obtaining and managing this type of work enables counsellors to work with clients drawn from a much bigger pool of potential customers.

This training day will provide nitty-gritty, practical answers to the above questions. It will also stimulate you to think about what you are already doing and how you might adapt it for telephone and video call work.

Cost: £80 (£10 Early Bird Reduction if you book and pay before midnight on 03/11/18).

Facilitators

The workshop will be run by James Rye and Rabina Akhtar.

James has an MA in Counselling, a Postgraduate Certificate in Supervision. He is a Senior Accredited, Registered Member of BACP and now works as a counsellor/psychotherapist, supervisor, trainer, and author. After a successful career in teaching, James set up his private practice in 1997 and now regularly uses telephone and video-calls to interact with clients and supervisees from around the UK and the world. James was formerly the Chair of the BACP Private Practice Executive Committee.

Rabina is a qualified counsellor and supervisor and holds a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling and a PGC in Clinical Supervision. Rabina setup in private practice in 2011 and is currently a member of the BACP Private Practice Executive Committee and is the organiser for BACP Regional Network Meetings in Peterborough. She has taught counselling from level 2 to level 4 at a local college and provides ad-hoc training for Peterborough Cruse Bereavement. Rabina has moved into telephone and video counselling since 2013 due to increasing requests from clients who were unable to travel or were further a field.
